Kylie FieldMy name is Kylie Field and I am a Postpartum Doula (DONA trained)  and Certified Infant Massage Instructor (IAIM) in Halifax and Bedford, Nova Scotia. I trained as a Registered Nurse in South Africa, in a comprehensive course including General Nursing, Midwifery, Psychiatry and Public Health. I have not worked as a nurse since coming to Canada in 1995, as I have been privileged to stay at home to raise our 2 daughters, who are now 10 and 12 years old.  I have always enjoyed postnatal education, and I love babies and helping new Moms feel confident in their mothering role.  I am also a "Roots of Empathy" Instructor in the public school system.

I am well trained in the art of breastfeeding and infant care.  I am caring, supportive and nurture the whole family as they integrate the newborn into their lives.  I have knowledge of postpartum maternal physical and emotional needs, and all aspects of newborn care.  I do not give medical advice, but am able to make and suggest appropriate referrals within the community.

Infant Massage Instructor

I am a certified Infant Massage Instructor (IAIM) and really enjoy guiding parents and caregivers in getting to know their baby better through the wonderful world of nurturing touch.

Massaging your baby has many health benefits.  It is also fun and provides your baby with a sense of security and physical comfort.  Generations of parents all over the world have used massage to promote their babies growth and development.  Parents find that massaging their baby increases their joy in parenting.

As a Postpartum Doula, I provide the following:

  • Mother care, support and guidance
  • Listening to and help with processing your birth story
  • Breastfeeding support and instruction
  • Baby care instruction (feeding, bathing, cord care, swaddling, skin to skin contact etc.)
  • Infant care while mother rests or attends to other children
  • Light meal preparation and clean-up
  • Shopping and errands
  • Baby's laundry and nursery organization
  • Sibling care

As a Postpartum Doula, I do not:

  • Babysit or stay alone with older children for an extended period of time.
  • Perform any major household tasks or cleaning
  • I do not offer any form of medical advice

I like to meet my Postpartum Clients at least once before the birth of their baby to discuss their expectations of the postpartum period and to define my role as your Postpartum Doula. There is no charge for this first meeting and it is free of obligation.  My fee thereafter is $25 per hour.

Request postpartum support as a babyshower gift! Gift Certificates are available.

Visits to clients outside the Halifax/Bedford area may be subject to charges for travel time.

I work with other Postpartum Doulas in the community to offer you optimal and extended time frames of care to suit your family.

I will let you know of times that I am unavailable to provide support. I will make every effort to cover those times by arranging for a back-up Doula.
